Comal ISD Visual Arts Program Wins District of Distinction Award for 6th Consecutive Year

July 18, 2024 - For the sixth consecutive year, the Comal Independent School District has won the District of Distinction Award from the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA), placing it among the top 1.3 percent of visual arts programming in the state. Comal ISD has earned this distinction every year that the award has been available.

“The Comal ISD fine arts department is very proud of the work our art teachers and students do that creates excellence in producing art within our district and community,” says Gary Cooper, director of fine arts at Comal ISD. “Their hard work and dedication to the visual arts is evidenced in receiving this award again for the sixth straight year.”

Only 16 school districts have achieved this honor for six consecutive years. This year, more than 1,200 districts were eligible to apply for the District of Distinction award and just 94 districts earned the honor for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Districts received this honor for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum that inspires creativity and builds social emotional learning, connecting learners to their community and beyond.

“Comal ISD has set a high standard of visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity, community participation and student growth,” says Nealy Holley, chair of the visual art administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA. “It is a true testament to your visual arts educators’ skill, dedication and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued to provide strong and comprehensive visual art educational experiences to students.”

Comal ISD along with all the winning districts will be honored at the TAEA Administration and Supervision Division meeting and general session during the TAEA Fall Conference General Assembly Friday, Nov. 15.

Congratulations!
