March 26, 2025 - Comal ISD hosted the third district art show of the school year Tuesday, March 11, at the district’s Support Services building in New Braunfels. The featured pieces on display were chosen by art teachers in the Pieper High School feeder pattern including the following eight schools: Indian Springs Elementary, Kinder Ranch Elementary, Specht Elementary, Timberwood Park Elementary, Bulverde Middle School, Pieper Ranch Middle School, Memorial Early College High School and Pieper High School.
The artwork varied from sculptures, oil pastels and watercolor to print making and more. Art teachers presented artists with medals while explaining each piece to the audience of family and friends.
In addition, an elementary, a middle and a high school student were awarded the Superintendent’s Excellence Award for Art. This prestigious award is personally selected by Superintendent of Schools Dr. John E. Chapman III recognizing outstanding talent and creativity.
The artists to receive the Superintendent’s Excellence Award for Art from the third show of the year are listed here.
- Avery Brown, 5th grade, Specht Elementary School, “Northern Lights”
- A.M., Bulverde Middle School, “Candy Scorpion”
- Mai Nguyen, 10th grade, Pieper High School, “Inseparable”
Memorial Early College High School student artist Halayna Medina was proud to have her work selected for the show. Titled “Psp Psp,” her piece was a portrait of her beloved cat named Milo created with yarn. The assignment was to use anything but ordinary art tools like paint or colored pencils.
“It took a very long time to get the yarn to lay just right,” says Medina, “but it was very worth it. It is one of my favorite art pieces.”
The district plans to host one final art show this school year in May.
